As for the background on the inputs - that's what messing around with the <a href="http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/webdevel.html" rel="nofollow">edit styles bookmarklet</a> does for you. How? By subscribing to multiple feeds, from multiple news sources, from multiple countries in multiple languages ;)
Having said that, the BBC is still the best source for strange news stories.
