Hi Garry,

Can't say I've been keeping up with the story to be honest (I'm just starting my Part II at Newcastle, so Cambridge is really on my radar anymore), however, I'd guess that if the school did close that it would be a phased closure where they'd just stop taking new students but keep on any students who were mid-course as I'm fairly sure that's what they did with their Part II.

As for any cut-backs in facilities/numbers etc the best people to ask would probably be the staff & students already at the department.

I\'m know this is old news, but does anyone have any idea of how the Cambridge Architectural department is now functioning. I\'m looking at it for 2007 entry: will it last for the 3 years of a Part 1. They say the annual intake is 40: is this down from previous capacity? Are they winding it down? Have student facilities been cut back? Or; does anyone know of another blog or forum that covers this. I hope this isn\'t too personal. Thanks G

Bottom line: research = money. Let\’s face it, Cambridge University literally owns most of Cambridge town centre, so we all know their affinity for phat wads of cash. Their \”high research standards\” almost certainly boil down to a figue with a £ sign in front of it.

Let's face it, Cambridge University literally owns most of Cambridge town centre

Not to mention most of the land between Cambridge and London... although that's colleges which are slightly separate from 'The University' (don't ask me how, I'm not sure)

Unfortunatly most Universities' "research standards" involve a balance sheet in the calculation somewhere.
