Comment Spam: Just Say No!
Saturday, 20th March 2004
I got fed up of individually deleting every piece of comment spam that I get. Like so many other people.
Seeing as the particular batch of comment spam I’ve been dealing with appears to have been using random IPs banning those has not worked. It has just left me annoyed at continually deleting comments (especially as I get more spam comments that real ones) and banning IPs rather than blogging.
So I’ve set up Jay Allen’s MT-Blacklist. And it’s fantastic… since I set it up I’ve had spam comments bounce every couple of hours, and none get thru.

The very fact that you have to do this sucks. Email spam is annoying enough, but to spam peoples personal journals … hmm … mutter … hmm. I suppose one advantage of LiveJournal is that I can disable/screen anonymous posting, meaning that people can’t do this to me.
Will someone please shoot the spammers
I wonder if something cunning with cookies could be done for journals like yours… So you proove your self human on the site once… hmm.

That’s the most fantastic piece of gobbledegook I’ve read in a long time!!… I must admit most of the comment spam I get is less of the random and more of the sick/twisted/disgusting….. not sure why they target me, but there we go.
Although Meri did get some comment spam which she kept for amusment value due to it being written in German!
