Guns Don’t Kill People….Video Games Do?
Tuesday, 3rd February 2004
Two things have caught my attention relating to this subject this week.
First, on collective about the connection between games and killing sprees made in the upcoming film Elephant, which has just won awards at Cannes.
Secondly, on gamegirladvance noting that violence in video games is a declining trend (many of the comments have differing views on the reasons and implications of this)
I’m not sure that I’ve entirely made up my mind on the whole subject one way or another.Wandering around killing “marauding alien zombie Nazis” is violent..yes? But it’s part of a much, much wider picture.
Violence in entertainment (games, film, tv programming) is not the most universal exposure to violence in modern culture. Every time we turn on the news there are reports of more bombings, more attacks and more murders – and they are not always portrayed as the atrocious loss of human life that they are. And it doesn’t matter – because as long as you come out on top, you’re keeping the peace – which isn’t violent at all….
Tony:
I’ve been proclaiming the virtues of the Zombie Nazi for ages! If you want the FULL kill with impunity though, its
DEMONIC Maurauding Alien Zombie Nazi ROBOTS
However recently there have been press groups demanding fair representation for zombies, so make them ghosts instead… Hell! Why not Zombie Ghosts? No ones done that before.

A final addition is Hivemind. Its ok to kill hivemind entities because they have no personality. So thats
Evil Demonic Maurauding Alien Ghost-Zombie Nazi Robot Terrorist hivemind entities.
Why is that description so little removed from the borg?

Although you are, perhaps, putting a little too much thought into this…

Why all this crazy talk of “zombie Nazis”? It’s obvious that “vampire Nazis” are much better or, better still, cannibalistic Nazi vampire submariners.
-Rich, who blames mailing lists.

Possibly any form of undead then…although zombies are easier to kill with a chainsaw – you have to be a slightly better shot to kill a vampire (all this stake throught the heart or decapitation stuff.)
Cannibalism a good one… (as long as they’re victims aren’t consenting… you end with problems then)

Malevolent naked alien vampire babes (work-safe!) are also good! Especially if they cause London to be overrun with zombies!

Some people evidently don’t have enough work to do! *rolls eyes*
No, I reckon it should definitely be:
Evil marauding lesbian hivemind cannabalistic alien vampiric demons, intent on enslaving the human population for breeding purposes.
So there 😛

Oh, and shouldn’t those be “Evil shapeshifting marauding lesbian hivemind cannabalistic alien vampiric demons, intent on enslaving the human population for breeding purposes”?
-Rich, trying to be precise.

I wonder if those nice people at Echelon will now catch this page and upgrade the US security colour code to handle the threat.
-Rich, who’d love to turn on CNN only to hear that Earth had been invaded by evil shapeshifting marauding lesbian hivemind cannabalistic alien vampiric demonic terrorists, intent on enslaving the human population for breeding purposes.

Incidentally, I think the earth has already been invaded by evil militant crapflooding hiveminded spambots, who will be circling this post very shortly due to the number of entries.
Everyone remember to scream in a believable manner once they arrive!

A couple of years ago, my friend Brendan wrote “The Randomisation of Culture” about spammers. At the time, I thought he was talking nonsense, but he has since been proved a prophet. Of course, he didn’t forecast semi-sentient spambots like dorkSpotter, but nobody’s perfect!

C’mon now..use your head. Don’t give the psychos an excuse in this world. Just like genetics isn’t a reason why someone is a homosexual; it’s an excuse
